April 27th is Local Yarn Store Day, but we have a few reasons for you to visit us all month long.
Yarn of the Month
Fiber: 60% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon, 20% acrylic
Weight: 3, sport
Gauge: 32 sts = 4” US 2 needles
14 sc = 4” H (5.0mm) hook
Yardage: 546 yards
Care: Machine wash. Tumble dry.
Cascade finally jumped in on the cake yarn trend with the release of Whirligig. This is a self-striping yarn with long color repeats and more yardage than most other cakes. The blend of superwash merino, nylon, and acrylic gives this a beautiful drape. It is also incredibly soft!
My mom used Whirligig for the March CAL - Angel Lace Scarf.
You asked for them and now that we are in a bigger space, we can deliver. Starting this month we will have a weekly Knit Night. Remember crocheters are welcome too! Join our yarnie community on Tuesday nights from 5pm to 7pm. This is not a class, but a time for us to gather over our mutual love of yarn and crafting.
Local Yarn Store Day
On Saturday, April 27th we are celebrating Local Yarn Store Day. This year we will celebrate with a giveaway, a sale, and an all day Stitch Social to start on our #hatnothate hat drive. Throughout the month of April, you will get an entry for the giveaway for every $10 you spend. We will then draw the winner at the end of the day on the 27th. The lucky winner will get a $20 gift certificate to the store and all sorts of yarnie tools.
There will be some special deals only for Local Yarn Store Day. All blue yarn will be 20% off on the 27th. That way you can get started on all those blue hats for the #hatnothate anti-bullying campaign. And project bags will be $5 with a $25 purchase.
All day Saturday, April 27th, we will kick off our #hatnothate campaign with a Stitch Social (think a knit night, but it’s all day long). The #hatnothate campaign is an anti-bullying initiative started by Shira over at Lion Brand Yarn. This year they have partnered up with Box Out Bullying to help educate students on how to deal with bullying. The goal is to knit and crochet blue hats that will then be distributed to local schools around the country for Anti-Bullying Day on October 1st. This project is near and dear to my heart as a former nerdy kid and current nerdy high school teacher. Plus, locally it was quite the success last year. The project started in August and in less than 2 months you guys made over 70 blue hats. What I love about our area is that people love to help others. So just imagine how many hats we can make starting in April! My goal for Love & Stitches is to collect 300 hand knit or crochet blue hats. Please help us out as we make and collect blue hats until September. Let’s put an end bullying!
You can find more information on #hatnothate here - www.hatnothate.org
I’ll be posting updates on the blog here with hat totals and free patterns. There will also be copies of those free patterns in store AND cute wooden tags to sew on to your blue hats.
