September Announcements

August 30, 2018

For me, September is a time for new beginnings. My birthday is right around the same time school starts so I feel like its January 1st again with a fresh start. Except we're heading into my favorite season instead of wondering when the ice is going to thaw. The combination of cake, new school supplies, and crisp fall air is rather magical.

The first thing that is happening in September is the change in hours. We have to go back to night and Saturday hours. Since it's my first year though I feel comfortable keeping the shop open on Tuesday nights. So our hours starting September 4th...

Tuesday to Friday  4pm - 7pm

Saturday   10am - 5pm

You guys made this summer at the shop so awesome that it's tough to go back to night hours. But I also love my full time job... the teacher life... I can't help it.

We want to start off the new school year and me getting older with some fun though. We're doing that with a Birthday/Back to School Sale. In order to celebrate both of those things there will be 20% off all pink and purple yarn off from September 4th to the 8th. Pink is my favorite color and Purple is a close second and also happens to be one of my school's colors.

Next up we have a series of crochet classes on Thursday nights designed for beginners or hookers that need a refresher course.

Week 1 - Absolute beginner class. Learn how to hold a crochet hook, chain, and single crochet.

Week 2 - Building on the beginner skills and adding double crochet and half double crochet to your stitch repertoire.

Week 3 - Learning how to make different textures using combinations of the basic stitches.

Week 4 - How to crochet in the round.

I'm also working on getting classes for pattern reading. Many people have approached me about this. They have told me they know how to crochet, but they don't know how to read patterns. I'm working on it! I promise!

In September we're also getting sock knitting classes back!! If you missed the class with Etta back in March, Nancy will here to teach us the 2 at a time method. This time classes will be on Wednesday nights and spaced a little further apart. I know I won't be the only one with a busy schedule come fall and we tried to keep that in mind when scheduling. The classes are on September 26th, October 17th, and November 7th. Many people were interested in this class earlier this year, so make sure you call, stop in, or register online to reserve your spot. We will be capping this class at 5 people.

The HATNOTHATE campaign is still going on. We are collecting knit or crochet blue hats to distribute to local schools to bring awareness to bullying. STOMP Out Bullying and Lion Brand Yarn are working together to bring more awareness to bullying because words do hurt and kids need to learn skills on how to deal with bullies. The last day to donate is September 28th. October 1st is national bullying prevention day. Even if you do not donate a hat, be sure to wear your blue hat that day.

And last but not least - My Beginner Raglan KAL!!

We will be meeting on Saturday mornings in September and October to knit up this beautiful chunky sweater. Just in time for the chilly fall weather. It is not too late if you want to join. We meet 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, and 10/13. If you can't come to the meetings but still want to participate in the KAL, join our facebook group HERE. The group will act as a place to ask questions during the week if you get stuck or to show off your progress.

I think that is it for September updates?

Wait! Can't forget the yarn of the month!

Throughout all of September the Yarn of the Month is Plymouth Hot Cakes. This gorgeous cake is actually Encore in disguise. It's the same blend of acrylic and wool that you know and love now in cakes. The complaint I frequently hear about Caron Cakes is that the color blocks are too big. I love me some Caron Cakes, but there are some projects that don't do the colors justice when you only see each color in the skein once. With Plymouth Hot Cakes give you chunks of color that you see each color at least 3 times in this 404 yard cake.  Stop in the store to see the blanket I'm making with it. The pattern is a behemoth, but boy do the colors in the Hot Cakes look lovely.

Now that's all the September announcements!

See you soon :)
